The Progress
The Program started in September 2008 with 5 participants, Arjan
Vrielink, from the Netherlands, Karla Hammer from the USA, Toni
Mayner from the U.K. Kirsty Eaglesfield from Scotland and Sangwoo
Kim from South Korea. A very nice mix of different cultures, sexes
and experiences with one common aim: to start a professional career
as silversmith.
Since the common workshop in the watertower was not ready, due to
renovation. The participants were compensated being able to work in
the three workshops of the three coaches/ mastersilversmiths.
The participants all started with one similar
piece, to get a general impression of technical levels. In the first
weeks it was still much about getting to know their whereabouts in
the workshops, in Schoonhoven and... in Dutch. They were introduced
to the Mayor of Schoonhoven and his deputy. Weekly meetings with the
coordinator Louis Hankart got everyone to do some research.

Experiments, tests and prototypes were made
before they first started their actual production of the design. |
| |
|
| In November the galleries " Zilvergalerie de
Watertoren" and Studio 925/ Zilver & Van Nouhuys were present at PAN
Amsterdam, a high level arts and antiques fair. For the participants
it was a learning opportunity to experience what is involved in a
professional presentation at a prestigious fair. In December they made their first presentation
of their work in progress at the Schoonhoven Night of Silver. Many
visitors were introduced to the Program and its participants for the
first time.
Kirsty Eaglesfield participated successfully at two exhibitions in
Londen; Dazzle and
Mall Galleries.

January was cold in Holland, To experience a
real Dutch tradition of skating on the canals has become rare even
for the Dutch themselves. So besides working experiences they had a
real Dutch culture experience on the side by skating down the river
Vlist. Including cold hands and hot chocolate drinks. |

|
| The development of the designs grows slowly
but steadily. Technical experience and design skills are very
different for each of the participants. This demands personal
attention, which can be provided very well by this program. Besides working opportunities at the
workshops, The Program of Excellence wants to provide the
participants with relevant information or experiences, such as
meeting with Mr. A. Aardewerk, one of Hollands most recognized
antique Silver dealers. |

PERSBERICHT
EINDPRESENTATIE MASTERCLASS SILVER IN MOTION
Arjan Vrielink (Nederland), Kirsty Eagelsfield (UK), Sangwoo Kim
26 juni feestelijk geopend.
